Honest Comedy Guide

Editorial policy

Honest Comedy Guide aims to make thoughtful, readable writing about comedy. We distinguish observation from opinion and take care not to claim more certainty than a subject supports.

Accuracy and context

We check names, dates and other factual details against suitable sources before publication, and make clear when a passage is interpretation rather than fact. Comedy depends on context: we consider the form, audience and setting relevant to a subject rather than treating a joke as if it exists in isolation.

Independence and partnerships

Editorial decisions are made for readers, not in exchange for payment or access. Any sponsored or partner material is identified clearly where it appears and kept distinct from independent editorial work. A partnership does not guarantee coverage or a favourable view.

Corrections

If a published piece contains an error, we review the report and correct substantiated mistakes. When a change affects the substance of an article, we aim to make the correction clear to readers. Readers can send corrections through the Contact page.

Images and illustrations

Images are chosen to support the subject and are not presented as documentary evidence unless they are. Some illustrations may be AI-generated; where relevant, that fact is identified so readers can distinguish illustration from a record of an actual event.

Our point of view

Comedy rewards close attention.

A laugh can arrive in an instant; the choices behind it are worth taking slowly. We look at comedy with curiosity, without treating one taste or response as universal.
